Abby Tate, wearing the red and yellow uniform of a lifesaver, is giving a group of children a pep talk on the Inverloch surf beach on a baking summer’s day.
“You’re all great at this!” she says.
“You’ve got this!”
She watches, beaming, as the children, in fluoro vests, pelt down the sand to the water and hurl themselves over the break.
“I’m so proud of my Starfish kids.”
Ms Tate is the age manager of the Inverloch Surf Lifesaving Club’s Starfish Nippers program, which provides a safe and supportive environment for children with disabilities to learn water safety.
