Guardianship as a last resort: Exploring alternatives

OPA is running a series of free online workshops for NDIS Support Coordinators, service providers and families about why guardianship is a last resort and exploring alternatives.

In these workshops we will:

  • Discuss the empowerment of people with disability when thinking about guardianship and administration processes.
  • Explore relevant legislation and policy (Disability Discrimination Act, Guardianship and Administration Act and NDIS Supported Decision-Making Policy)
  • Hear about some of the findings of the Disability Royal Commission.
  • Share and discuss relevant case studies

These workshops are part of OPA’s new Supported Discussions Project that aims, where possible, to divert people from inappropriate guardianship by promoting supported decision-making and self-advocacy.

Morning and afternoon sessions are available on:

  • Monday 13 November
  • Thursday 16 November
  • Monday 20 November.
