Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) support people who are at risk of or are receiving compulsory psychiatric treatment to have as much say as possible about their assessment, treatment and recovery.
IMHA is led and staffed by professionals with backgrounds in consumer advocacy, social work and mental health service provision and advocates are based in offices across the state and visit all mental health units.
This service is independent, free and confidential. IMHA provides informaiton about people’s rights and the mental health system; support people to speak up for themselves; express the person views and preferences; and make referrals if that is what the person wants.
