Living with vision impairment throws up many challenges. Being Deaf as well requires you to go to even greater lengths just to fit in with the modern world. This is how one Deafblind woman does it. Jael Espinal’s morning routine is much like anyone else’s.
“I wake up, make breakfast, and then I head to the shower, get my hair ready and choose my outfit,” she says.
How Jael does all those things, however, is less typical.
Jael is Deafblind. She also lives alone.
It means she can’t hear her alarm when it goes off in the morning. So, every night before she goes to bed, she puts her phone by her pillow, close enough to feel the vibration alerts.
