A cornerstone of the NDIS has always been to allow participants to have greater independence and choice over how they live.

But advocates are growing increasingly concerned that funding decisions are reducing that independence, describing them as “counterintuitive” and “nonsensical”.

The government introduced strict lists specifying what NDIS funds could be spent on last October.
