Accepting my body with disability began with learning to love myself

For ABC Heywire winner Jezabella, being unique has come with its challenges. 

When she was a baby, she was diagnosed with a medical condition so rare, only eight other Australians were known to have it at the time.

It’s not clear what triggers it but acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a kind of inflammation that affects the brain and spinal cord. 

The 16-year-old from Broken Hill, NSW, says it affects how she walks, comparing her gait to the “waddle” of a penguin.
