Creating Safe Shelter Spaces project is focused on helping local councils assess and improve the inclusiveness and safety of their Emergency Relief Centres (ERC). We’re working alongside councils to provide live feedback during ERC exercises and develop practical, region-specific resources to ensure ERCs are safer and more welcoming for everyone.
A big part of this is understanding what people with disabilities might need and what challenges they could face in an emergency shelter. We know that people with disabilities may have specific accessibility, communication, support, or safety requirements, and we want to make sure their experiences and perspectives meaningfully inform the solutions we design.
We understand time and capacity are limited, and while we’re unfortunately not resourced to offer paid consultancy at this stage, we’d be incredibly grateful if you could complete a short survey by Wednesday 10 September: Click here to complete the survey.
Your input will directly shape our work, and even a few minutes of your time to share your perspectives on the needs of people with disabilities in ERCs would make a meaningful difference.
