Social inequalities in eligibility rates and use of the Australian National Disability Insurance Scheme

This groundbreaking new research led by Dr George Disney and Dr Yi Yang from the Melbourne Disability Institute finds that applications to the NDIS from some groups are more likely to be unsuccessful – including women and girls, people aged over 55, and those in disadvantaged areas. The team also found the intersection of disability with broader social inequalities, such as poverty, could also hinder access to the NDIS or once accepted, making the most of the opportunities it offers.
